Why here

The Charlotte region advantage

Six reasons people give us for moving here, or for staying.

  • A varied housing stock

From 1920s bungalows to new townhomes, often within the same zip code.

  • Greenways and lakes

Miles of connected greenway, and three large lakes within an hour.

  • Light rail

The LYNX Blue Line links south Charlotte, Uptown and the university area.

  • A major airport

Charlotte Douglas offers nonstop flights across the country and abroad.

  • Four mild seasons

Warm summers, short winters, and a long spring and autumn.

  • Mountains and coast

The Blue Ridge is about two hours west and the beaches about three and a half hours east.

Town by town

Charlotte area towns

Three of the towns buyers ask about most, with the others listed below.

Mecklenburg County, NC 28202 to 28278

Charlotte, NC

Area overview

Charlotte is the largest city in North Carolina and the seat of Mecklenburg County. The housing changes block by block: 1920s bungalows near Uptown, brick ranches from the 1960s, and new townhomes along the light rail.

Because the city is so varied, the search usually starts with how you want to get around and what kind of house you want to maintain, then narrows to a handful of neighborhoods.

What makes Charlotte special

  • Light rail and streetcar

The LYNX Blue Line runs from south Charlotte through Uptown to the university area, with the Gold Line streetcar crossing it.

  • Greenways

Little Sugar Creek Greenway and the Rail Trail connect parks and neighborhoods for miles without crossing traffic.

  • Historic districts

Dilworth, Fourth Ward, Plaza Midwood and others have local design review for exterior changes.

  • Airport access

Charlotte Douglas International Airport is about fifteen minutes west of Uptown.

Huntersville, NC

Area overview

Huntersville sits in north Mecklenburg County along I-77. Most of its housing was built from the 1990s on, in planned neighborhoods with sidewalks, pools and homeowners associations.

It is a practical choice for buyers who want a newer house and more square footage than the same budget buys closer to Uptown, with Lake Norman and Mountain Island Lake a short drive away.

What makes Huntersville special

  • Birkdale Village

A walkable town-center development with shops, restaurants and apartments above them.

  • Latta Nature Preserve

More than a thousand acres on Mountain Island Lake, with trails and the Carolina Raptor Center.

  • Newer housing stock

Most homes date from the 1990s onward, so systems and floor plans tend to be current.

  • I-77 corridor

Exits 23 and 25 serve the town. We look at commute times at the hours you would actually drive.

Mecklenburg County, NC 28104, 28105

Matthews, NC

Area overview

Matthews is a town in southeast Mecklenburg County with its own historic downtown. Much of the housing dates from the 1960s to the 1990s: brick ranches and two-storey homes on larger lots with mature trees.

Buyers come here for yard space and single-level floor plans. Older homes can need updating, so we look hard at roofs, plumbing and crawl spaces during due diligence.

What makes Matthews special

  • Historic downtown

Trade Street has restaurants, a hardware store and the Matthews Community Farmers' Market.

  • Parks

Stumptown Park hosts town events, and Squirrel Lake Park has trails around the water.

  • Established lots

Many neighborhoods have no homeowners association and lots of a third of an acre or more.

  • Road access

I-485 and US 74 put south Charlotte and Uptown within reach.

Community questions

Your community questions, answered

Start with your weekly routine: where you drive, what you want nearby and how much house and land you want to maintain. Then compare taxes and commute times. We can drive you through two or three towns in one afternoon.

We point you to the official sources, such as school district maps and public safety data, so you can judge for yourself. Fair housing law means an agent should give you facts and sources, not opinions about who lives where.

Yes. We compare builders, review the contract with you and arrange independent inspections. Visit the builder's sales office with us the first time, so your representation is on record.
